Financial Controller

Job Summary

Our fast-growing, production company is seeking a Financial Controller. This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to apply their knowledge, learn new skills and work as a member of a dynamic team. This position will manage the overall financial and day-to-day activities of a small manufacturer and will work in close cooperation with CFO and other department heads. This individual will be asked to help drive the performance of the operations by applying technical and business insights and guidance. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience of at least 5 years in accounting.  Additionally, the candidate for this position will be motivated to grow with Palmetto Gourmet Foods, building a career for years to come. 

Junior Financial Controller Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations
  • Support the accounting team by overseeing accounts payable and receivable
  • Handle month-end closing activities including monthly balance sheet reconciliations including bank, prepaid, capital assets, intangible assets and accrued liabilities
  • Complete, adapt and implement process changes relating to month-end reporting and excel schedules in a timely manner
  • Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures
  • Prepare and submit year-end closing documents
  • Maintain and file all accounts payables, taxes and government remittances
  • Oversee the processing of payroll including calculations and any administration
  • Monitor and provide job cost reports to management on active projects
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Coordinate with an external accountant for year-end tax returns
  • Resolve invoicing disputes and communicate issues or roadblocks that need resolution with the clients
  • Manage all administrative duties such as contract documentation and management of files
  • Identify trend lines and run rates; challenge management constructively with compelling data to address issues early
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to methodologies and procedures to improve financial reporting and management processes


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role
  • CPA Accounting designation required, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education
  • Proficiency with ERP accounting systems
  • Proven experience with MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience working in a similar role within the manufacturing industry is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work closely with a senior management team
